Workforce
Enthusiastic,
hard working, diligent and talented. A bold statement, but a visit to
the De Birs factory in the Amria Free Zone in Alexandria would
illustrate all these attributes. There is a deep seeded desire amongst
the workforce in this area to work quickly and efficiently, not just do
a fair days work but to exceed this and add a dimension of quality at
the same time.
This determination ensures that the finished product has a higher
proportion of investment in the engine, fit out and equipment. In very
approximate terms 80% of the cost of a finished De Birs yacht is the
mechanical end product, with the labour content being 20%. Competitors
have a ratio probably the other way round.
The skills are evident wherever you go in the shipyard, friendly
competition between work teams elevates the quality of the fine joinery
and veneering, all of this activity led by a truly international team
of specialists who complement the overall desire to produce an
outstanding product.
Values
From
a far distant past, Alexandria was one of the mystical and notable
centers of the ancient world. A place firmly set in the development of
what we call the modern world. For millennia craftsmen here have been
building boats. It is only fitting that Alexandria should draw on this
history and craftsmanship and build a modern, technically advanced
range of seagoing yachts. Egypt is a seagoing nation. The world has
grown to recognize the visual icons of the Egyptian past and overlooked
what are the fundamental attributes of this forward looking nation, the
ability of drawing from yesteryear and putting traditional values into
today’s products.
This can be found at the De Birs shipyard, absolute pride in
workmanship and the intelligent application of traditional values. This
comes naturally from the entire workforce. The quality of craftsmanship
is evidence that a very special value is put on the tradition of the
city of Alexandria.
Partnerships
It
would have been brave to create a new product with unknown designers
and architects and fitted with equipment of no brand recognition.
Solution: put together a dream-team, build in a Free Zone and produce a
world class product at a highly competitive price.
Right from the outset, the strategy was to assemble the best
engineering and propulsion systems. Add to this all the subsidiary
requirements from pumps to electronics and the picture emerges. But
equipment will only perform if the yacht has been skillfully designed
by well known naval architects. The interior styled by the leading
design studios completes the overall picture.
The familiar names are just some of the leading manufacturers and
designers brought together to create a product that is unique. Part of
this partnership is the international group of managers who have come
from Europe and U.S. to join in the creation of a sophisticated, luxury
product.
